About the Company

GRANDEZA MEXICANA FOLK BALLET COMPANY

Now in its 21st year is a non-profit performing arts organization.

The company was founded by Jose Vences in 2003. Grandeza was formed to advance the field of Mexican folk ballet, enhance the public’s appreciation for the diversity and depth of Mexican culture, and to present high-quality dance productions.

Currently, Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company has more than 30 dancers. With signature pride in the rich national culture, Grandeza presents high-caliber dance productions that represent the diverse regions of Mexico.

Whether choreographic works depict celebrations, ceremonies, or daily rituals, they are a colorful slice of the flavor of Mexico and are committed to preserving the traditions and customs of Mexico’s historic past and promising present.

GUS MEJIA ARTE : LA OFRENDA | Portrait Art Gallery exhibition

Based out of Los Angeles, California Gus Mejia is an award-winning internationally recognized photographer that showcases distinctive and captivating Dia de Los Muertos imagery.

His widely known unique Catrina-Fashion pictorial style portraits and vivid colors are instantly recognizable. Theatrical staging compositions, cultural celebratory narratives, dramatic lighting, and stillness are all things that can be easily spotted across his body of work.

Through a partnership with Lore Media and Arts & Scottsdale Dia de Los Muertos, Gus Mejia will be this year’s featured Artist through an elaborate in in-depth Photo Exhibition celebrating the release of his new book comprised of Catrina portraits and Dia de Los Muertos iconic imagery. Many of his works will be on display at the Old Adobe Mission intermixed with the annual Oaxacan-inspired Altares y Ofrendas Art Installations Experience.

For four days, the outdoor spaces at Scottsdale Civic Center will host colorful, large-scale installations for the Scottsdale Dia de Los Muertos celebration.

PROCESSION DESFILE DE LOS MUERTOS

OCTOBER 25 | 6 PM - 10 PM begins at the Old Adobe Mission - FREE ADMISSION

On Friday, October 25, join us at the Old Adobe Mission as we honor the memories and lives of loved ones through the ancient cultural tradition of a procession that will end at the Scottsdale Civic Center. Participants and families are invited to dress in traditional regalia and bring photos and altars to carry. The procession is both a solemn tribute and a joyful celebration of life, inviting both remembrance and communal festivity.

There will be musical performances and presentations throughout the day. We will showcase different food, art, crafts, and vending merchants.
